• Make sure the fairway is clear of people and animals before you throw.

• The youngest player starts on hole 1.

• On the next hole, the player with the best score on the previous hole throws first.

• The tee throw must be made with the supporting foot within a 3-metre zone behind the tee marker.

• After releasing the disc, it is allowed to step past the marker.

• The next throw is taken from the back of the disc, placing the supporting foot within 30 cm directly behind the disc. It is also allowed to step out to the side, but not closer to the basket. A run-up is allowed as long as one foot lands in the correct position behind the disc.

• For safety reasons, the player farthest from the basket always throws first.

• The ground in front of the marker may be touched immediately after the disc has been thrown. For putts (throws within 10 metres of the basket), you may not step past the marker until full balance has been shown.

• A disc that lands OB (Out of Bounds) must be played from where the disc crossed the OB line, with a one-throw penalty. Roads and water are common OB areas.

Even though the rules cover most situations, there are also some unwritten rules to keep in mind:

• Show respect for your surroundings – other players, people, plants, and animals.

• Never throw if there is a risk of hitting someone.

• It is never okay to break branches or small trees because they are in the way or out of frustration.

• Take your trash with you. Littering is never acceptable.

• Let faster groups play through. When you are the faster group later, you will appreciate the same courtesy.

• Most importantly, have fun – that’s what disc golf is all about.
